In the information
contained in this chapter explains yet again how all things are connected.
By explaining Gregor Mendel's' work, and connecting it to what we already
know about the chromosomes, how it replicates, and where it is located,
gives us another view of another level of continuity. This time it is
a continuity through inheritance. One of the characteristics of life,
discussed in the first chapter, is that of having the ability to inherit
traits from a previous generation. Gregor Mendel gave us the basis for
understanding how individuals receive the necessary information from our
parents. An understanding of mendelian genetics helps physicians and
genetic counselors predict the possibility of certain diseases being seen in
future generations. |
