Endoplasmic Reticulum
The endoplasmic reticulum is a system of phospholipid membrane
tubes that
makes is equated to a subway. It is generally associated with ribosomes
and the nucleus. It connects many organelles in the cell. If
ribosomes are attached to this organelle it is considered Rough ER, without
ribosomes, smooth ER. Rough ER is responsible for protein synthesis in
which the majority of the proteins produced will be prepared for export from the
cell. Smooth ER is where steroids are synthesized and molecules are
modified.
